Ujala!.png

The power of art and light bring beauty and safety to the narrow and dim passageways between homes and workshops in the Dharavi slum of Mumbai, India.

Public art project ujala, named for the Hindi word for illumination, is a collaboration between artists and community members in Mumbai, and artists and designers in the United States.

Through the process of developing an innovative system that combines LED lighting with fishnets and artwork, the team is working to empower residents and respectfully honor the community.
